ROTARY SHAFT SEALS

Rotary seals are utilized for sealing dynamic, rotary motion. SNAK Seals offers an extensive selection of rotary shaft seals and rotary lip seals to meet the needs of both original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) applications. Our rotary seals are categorized as follows:

The primary functions of rotary shaft seals in most applications are to retain bearing lubricant, prevent leakage that may result in environmental concerns, and improve the performance and longevity of the bearing by reducing the ingress of dirt, dust, product, moisture, and water that can cause damage and premature failure of the bearing and other system components.

Elevated pressures and speeds can generate significant thermal and frictional loads on the dynamic sealing areas of rotary seals, potentially leading to premature seal failure. Therefore, careful consideration should be given to selecting an appropriate seal design and material.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to one of our knowledgeable seal engineers for assistance in selecting the most suitable seal for your specific application.

Our rotary seals and radial lip seals are engineered to effectively seal fluids, gases, oil, grease, oil mist, vacuum, or other media in rotating equipment, such as rotating or oscillating shafts, rods, tubes, or bores. We offer rotary seals specifically tailored for various applications, including:

High- and medium-pressure sealing
Low friction and low energy consumption
Low torque
Dry run
Poor or no lubrication
High temperature
High surface speeds
Shaft misalignment
Corrosive and aggressive media

The Rotary Seals in our product line are categorized as follows:

Oil seals, grease, and bearing seals are designed for applications where there is little to no pressure, or very low pressure spikes up to 7psi (0.5bar). These products are commonly used for retaining oil and grease in power transmissions, motors, pumps, gearboxes, fans, and machine tools.

Our product line includes standard and special seal designs made of rubber with metal insert construction, as well as non-metal construction rotary shaft lip seals with or without a spring. The dynamic sealing lip is constructed of rubber material and is available in a wide variety of standard, premium, and special material options to meet specific fluid, temperature, and other challenging operating requirements. Medium-Pressure Rotary Shaft Seals

Designed to seal pressures of up to 500psi (35bar), the Medium-Pressure Rotary Shaft Seals are commonly used in a variety of applications such as pumps, motors, machine tools, brakes, clutches, mixers, compressors, and power transmissions. This product line features both standard and proprietary rotary seal designs and materials specifically engineered to address the demanding operating conditions associated with sealing higher pressures and dynamic motion of rotating shafts or bores.

For further information, please refer to our documentation.

High-Pressure Rotary Shaft Seals

Capable of sealing rotary motion up to 10,000psi (690bar)*, these seals are designed for a variety of applications including motors and pumps, rotary couplings, brakes, winches and draw works, rotary manifolds, drilling equipment, and mixers. This product line encompasses a range of standard, proprietary, and patented high-pressure rotary seal designs and materials specifically engineered to address the demanding requirements of sealing high pressure and dynamic motion on rotating equipment. For additional information, please refer to the provided link.

High-Performance Rotary Seals are specifically designed to seal rotary motion in situations where the operating conditions surpass the capabilities of elastomeric rubber lip seals and when enhanced sealing performance is necessary. These seals are commonly used in applications such as motors and pumps, rotary unions, brakes, clutches, power take-offs, top drives, drilling equipment, mixers, and filling equipment.

This product line stands out for its seal designs and materials that offer attributes such as low friction, low torque and wear under load, resistance to low and/or high temperatures ranging from -328°F to +500°F, capability for dry running, and high surface speed capabilities of up to 10,000fpm (50m/s). For further information on these high-performance rotary seals, please refer to the provided details.

Split Rotary Shaft Seals

Sealing rotary motion in low-pressure environments
Common applications: motors and pumps, gearboxes, rolling mills, calendars, and mastication mills
This particular product line has been primarily engineered to provide straightforward installation for oil, grease, and bearing replacement seals, thereby reducing the need for extensive equipment disassembly and minimizing downtime. Seals are available in solid form for initial construction and can also be provided in split form for on-site replacement.

Swivel seals are designed to seal rotary and oscillatory motion in instances of high pressure and lower surface speeds. These seals are commonly utilized in hydraulic swivels, hose reels, rotary unions, robotic arms and manipulators, machine tools, turntables, and positioning devices. For further information, please refer to the provided link.

Labyrinth  type seals are designed to seal rotary motion effectively in applications where no pressure is present. These radial exclusion seals are commonly used in pumps, compressors, gas turbines, motors, and machine tools. The product line aims to provide a non-contact exclusion seal that safeguards bearings from light splashing contaminants. It is suitable for high rotational surface speeds of up to 10,000 fpm and offers nearly unlimited service life. Additionally, these seals exhibit exceptionally low power losses. For further information, please refer to the details provided.

V-Rings, Environmental Excluder:

The V-Rings Environmental Excluder is an axial exclusion seal designed for no-pressure sealing applications. Commonly utilized in rolling mills, paper mills, conveyors, and agricultural equipment, this product line serves as a protective barrier for primary seals against contaminants.
