This is especially critical in situations where pressure and/or temperature changes may result in leaks if not adequately sealed.
Dynamic Sealing point
A dynamic sealing point is a critical component of the mechanical seal that resists kinetic motion and prevents fluid leakage. The seal moves as the mating components do. Dynamic sealing points consist of two parts: a static piece that remains motionless and connected to the housing, and a dynamic section that contacts and moves with the spinning shaft.
In most mechanical seals, the principal sealing regions are between the seal faces and the o-ring or elastomer surface, such as the shaft or bore.
Seal Faces: Mechanical seals generally have two basic seal faces: rotating and stationary. The revolving seal face connects to the spinning shaft, while the stationary face attaches to the equipment housing. The dynamic sealing point is placed where the seal faces contact and slide against one another. This sliding contact is lubricated with a thin fluid coating, which reduces wear while sealing the medium.
The shaft or bore is another important dynamic sealing site in a mechanical seal. The seal's o-ring or elastomeric component conforms to the shaft or hole, limiting fluid leakage around the spinning shaft. This dynamic sealing point can expand and contract in response to changes in operating circumstances (pressure or temperature), ensuring the seal's integrity.
The flexibility and robustness of dynamic sealing points allow them to adapt to the ever-changing conditions of motion. To provide a longer seal life, these seal points must not only be strong mechanically, but also resistant to wear and tear, chemical assaults, and thermal expansion. Another key advantage of dynamic sealing points is their low friction, which creates less heat and energy, resulting in a longer seal life.
Importance of the sealing points
When selecting a sealing point for a mechanical seal, numerous aspects must be considered. First and foremost is the material chosen for the sealing point. varying materials have varying features in terms of strength, flexibility, thermal resistance, and chemical resistance, thus it's critical to select the appropriate material for your application. The type of fluids being sealed should also be considered when choosing a sealing point material; some materials may not be compatible with specific fluids. Furthermore, pressure and temperature should be addressed when selecting a sealing point material, since some materials may be unable to tolerate harsh circumstances.
Once the appropriate material has been selected for the sealing point, it must be properly fitted to guarantee that it can form an effective seal. The most typical method is to use an interference fit, which means that one portion of the joint is slightly bigger than the other, resulting in a tight fit with no gaps or spaces between them. It is vital to remember that if this interference fit is not properly attained, leaks may still occur, even if all other components of the seal are completed perfectly.
